I have spent many days and hours (probably months), creating cecilbook for everyone in the family or anyone that many be interested in the Cecil, Singbeil, Rogers, Farran history . . . just to name a few. There are several other family members that are connected to all of us and they may or may not be included in this timeline website. His name was Bill, to me. He was my Dad In-law and I couldn’t have come across another one like him in a million years! I’m sorry if this does not come out clearly in words, but right now I have tears bellowing-up in my eyes and streaming down my cheeks and a huge lump in my throat as if I am trying to speak (write) about this amazing person that has played a big part in my life and as well left and amazing impression on me.

I remember when I agreed to come meet the family (Cheryl’s Family) in Winnipeg. I only had one picture of her Dad and Mum that she provided me. He looked so powerful an intimidating in that picture. He was the person I had to somehow impress enough to take his daughter away from him and his family to go live with me and start another life in far-away, Florida, USA (the States). How would I win him over?

The normal guy would have went in with his “guns” ready, so to speak, for a powerful presentation of who he was and what he had to offer his beautiful daughter. But I was not that kind of guy and that is why I was afraid this would ALL fall apart in the early days of my relationship with Cheryl and her family.

Needless to say, everything went better than expected. The Dad (In-law) I was expecting was a person of my caliper and understanding. I was ultimately blown-away that on my first visit to meet Cheryl’s Mum and Dad, they felt like they had the potential to be my “stand-in” parents. YES, they were that good! I could not believe that when they said “make yourself at home” . . . after arriving back in Florida, I wouldn’t mind going back there again! I looked forward to it again, and again . . .

Bill strived to make me a happy part of his family. I have to believe that he saw the trustworthiness in me (somehow) and brought it to another level between him and myself. That is what made him my other Dad, in my mind. So even though most people heard me call him Bill, you can rest assure, I considered him my Dad (my other Dad). Bill (Dad) was a wonderful man. I can only encourage you to go back and watch the experiences I had with him through the videos I have posted and have in my library within my cecilbook timeline.

This was a tribute video that Todd put together in memory of Bill and his life. Ken was blessed with six grandchildren – Sanylle, Cheryl, Bill, Paul, Tyler and Rachel, and six great-grandchildren – Drake, Duncan, Billy, Vanessa, Lane and Hannah. Ken worked at Olivetti / Underwood for over 40 years repairing business machines from typewriters to copiers to bank machines. It was there that he met his long time friend Andy Warren who was with him till the end. Ken found love again and was married in 1987 to Doreen Ison. Her children, Lori (Maureen MacDonald) Riedmueller and Frank Ison further enriched his life over the next 28 years. He loved being outdoors, fishing and working in his yard. Ken was particularly gifted with great skills in building things and fixing things and would often have multiple projects on the go from bird houses to gazebos. Ken also loved to travel taking numerous trips to Florida, to the west-coast of Canada and to England and even the Dominican Republic. Above all else, his greatest joy in life was sharing time with his family. He survived rectal cancer in 2007 and a heart attack in 2009 and continued to defy the odds with an amazing will to live. The family would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Duerksen and the staff at Concordia Hospital for their attentive care and to recognize all of the amazing people providing Ken’s home care, especially Frederico with whom he shared a very real bond. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale Avenue on Wednesday, September 16 at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon reception will follow in the church hall with interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
