Todd Cecil’s 48th Birthday | Compared to his Dad’s (Uriel Cecil) 48th Birthday.

As I write this post, I’m minutes away from my own 48th Birthday. (Todd Cecil turning 48 years old in 2014, ugh).

I am not writing to compare the accomplishments between us, but to record the differences between our life experiences. I don’t really know why, but I just thought it would be interesting to have it recorded in our history. My recollection might be fuzzy, just bare with me . . .

I knew I would be overshadowed by the accomplishments of my father. Uriel Cecil had 4 children at his age of 48 years old. I have none (just doggies).

My Dad was married with 4 children. The oldest, me, and I was 20 years old. The youngest was Matthew and he was only 4 years old. My Dad was married to my Mom and lived in College Park, MD in a modest 2 story home. In contrast, I’ve been married to my beautiful wife, Cheryl for 13 years and we have 3 doggies (goldens). We live in Odessa, FL (2014) in a large 2 story home (5-bedrooms, 4 – Bathrooms, 3 – Car Garage) with no children.

My Dad was in his career working at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Jet engine technician/maintenance, which he had been working as a civilian for many years. I guess we both are dependable, reliable workers because I am currently a parts manager at a Ford automotive dealership, which I have done for many years (since out of high school).

And what about me? In 1986 – when my Dad turned 48 years old? At that time it was my 2nd year out of high school and working at Koons Ford in College Park, MD., in the parts department. Instead of following my Dad’s advice of enlisting in the US Air Force as an officer (because of my ROTC training in high school). I decided to take 1 year of community college at night, majoring in economics and business management.

To sum it ALL up, my Dad and I just experienced different life choices and paths along the way. This is an example of how I know there is more the one way to become successful. There are many, many paths to explore in life. It’s up to each and everyone of us to chose the path that seems right for us at the time.
